Terroir

Dominant le Cher et ses affluents, le vignoble de Valençay se situe au Nord du Département de l’Indre, au carrefour du Berry, de la Touraine et de la Sologne.
L’aire d’appellation s’étend sur 2400 hectares classés sur 13 communes de l’Indre et 1 commune du Loir-et-Cher.

Overlooking the river Cher and its tributaries, the Valençay vineyard is located to the North of the Indre county, at the crossroads of the Berry, Touraine and Sologne regions.
The classified Appellation territory extends over 2,400 hectares in 13 communities in the Indre and 1 community in the Loir-et-Cher.

 Les vignes sont donc plantées sur des coteaux à pente moyenne, où prédominent deux types de sols :

• L’argile à silex (aussi appelés "Perruches")
• Des sols à dominante sablo-limonneuse à forte charge caillouteuse, aussi applés "argiles à cosses", datant du Sénonien et du Ténonien

The vines are planted on slopes with a medium gradient overlooking the river Cher and its tributaries, where there are three predominant soil types:
- Flinty clay (known also as "Perruches")
- Gravelly clay, soils with a dominant sandy-limestone content over layers of clay highly charged in pebbles, dating from the Senonian and Turonian eras.
